It’s only been six days since I received the phone call from Sense UK where
they agreed to take a chance on me
and welcomed me into their running team for 2014.
Then the task at hand finally hit
me…….I have to run 26.2 miles!!!
So on
Sunday 13 April 2014 I’ll be lined up with the rest of the 35,000+
runners, in our over-priced running shoes, ready to take on the streets of
the capital in the London Marathon.
Yep,
that’s right; I am running the London marathon for charity.
Now, I
am by no means a seasoned runner. Before this year I had not run more than a
few miles, unless you count school cross country (yep, me neither!), so I set
myself a challenge this year to do my first half marathon. Well, it was more
like “I’m turning thirty and it’s something nice to do”… you know, a milestone.
That
lovely milestone resulted in me competing in three half marathons (Wokingham,
Reading and Windsor), all coming in under the two hour mark. Just for fun I also
did a Tough Mudder event, which was an 11 mile army assault course… So my
thinking for 2014 was to do something bigger.
As this is most
likely a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I thought I would share my progress
over the next seven months by doing a weekly blog of my tales, living and
breathing marathon training, where I’m sure even my cat will make the odd
weekly story!
Whilst I hope to have
some fun writing this blog and in achieving this huge milestone, it's nothing
compared to what others have to go through on a day to day basis. This is why I
have chosen to run in aid of Sense UK. For someone to lose two major senses and
still be able to live an active life thanks to this charity is amazing and,
because of this, Sense deserve all the money my legs can handle!
I know you guys will give generously
and I thank you in advance for this.
So the question I am asking is ‘am I crazy or stupid?’
Only time will tell I guess, but please feel free to let me know which one when you kindly sponsor me.
Leigh
